Household Travel Surveys help determine the amount of travel generated in an area by local residents. Participants use a smartphone app, website or other methods to record where, when, how and why they travel.

The Memphis Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (Memphis MPO) needs your input to help guide future improvements to roads, public transit, sidewalks, and bike lanes throughout the greater Memphis region. By sharing information about your household’s daily travel, you can help the Memphis MPO better understand local transportation needs and plan future improvements. Participating is quick, simple, and secure, and your information will be used anonymously for regional planning purposes.ETC Institute is assisting the Memphis MPO on this survey. ETC Institute is a market research firm with extensive experience conducting household travel surveys for transportation planning organizations across the United States. Participants can provide their travel information using ETC Institute’s mobile app, online survey tools, or with assistance from a call center interviewer.

During a household travel survey, participants are asked to provide information regarding their household, household members, and vehicles. Then they select a travel date for their household. On the travel date, each household member will provide travel diary information that includes all the locations they went on their travel date along with details of those stops.

These surveys provide information about local travel patterns and needs. They help Memphis MPO make decisions about transportation projects that impact you and your community.

Every qualifying household receives a guaranteed gift card after successful completion! Your household may be eligible to earn up to $80 in gift cards to Amazon, Walmart, Target, Visa, and more. The amount your household receives depends on how you participate: $20 if no household members use the smartphone app $40 if one household member uses the smartphone app $80 if two or more household members use the smartphone appTo qualify for any reward, all household members must provide complete travel information.​​Important: Participation is limited to one completed survey per household. You even have the opportunity to donate your reward amount to charity.​Incentive Claim Deadline (180 Days) After your participation is approved, we send your incentive as a voucher link by email and/or text. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folders. Voucher links must be claimed within 180 days (6 months) of being sent; after that, the link may expire. If you can’t find your link or it expires, email travelsurvey@etcinstitute.com, and we’ll verify whether the original voucher was unclaimed/unredeemed and, if so, issue a replacement. If it was already claimed or redeemed, we cannot replace it.

You will be asked to keep track of every type of travel, including walking, bicycling, automobile, ride share, public transit, etc. Any type of travel that takes you from point A to point B.

We don't sell your personal data. ETC Institute gets paid by City, County, and State government agencies to conduct survey research. We also work with public agencies like Departments of Transportation and public transit agencies. They pay us to do research. We ask you questions and present the findings to them. They then make decisions based on the collected data that make your community better because now they know they have the information they need.
